How to use Seruniaudio SEM-02

As the successor to the SEM-01, the Seruniaudio SEM-02 Microphone has a much wider potential for use. There are several new accessories to support the versatility of this microphone. Such as cable clamps, clip-ons or alligator clips that have been adjusted to the dimensions of the SEM-02 and the presence of microdot adapters for various devices.

Of course, as a condenser microphone, SEM-02 can also be operated like SEM-01 which uses 48V phantom power. Phantom power is available in a wide variety of devices such as professional mixers, soundcard/audio interfaces, and acoustic amplifiers.

Watch the following video for more details:

However, the SEM-02 is also capable of operating without phantom power by using specific microdot adapters and connecting it to compatible devices such as digital cameras, smartphones, and wireless bodypack transmitters. These devices provide what’s known as plug-in power (also referred to as bias voltage), which supplies the necessary power for the condenser capsule in the SEM-02. For example:

  • For wireless bodypack transmitters, there are dedicated adapters such as:– ACS21-F for Shure– ACS22-F for Fifine– ACS23-M for Sennheiser– ACS26-M for Rode– ACS27-F for AKG, etc (for more product please click here).

  • To use SEM-02 with a digital camera, or portable recorder, you can connect it via the TRS adapter (ACS26-M) directly to the mic input. (more on this you can read this post)

  • For smartphones, use the TRRS adapter (ACS24-M) on the headset jack. ()

It's important to note that while phantom power isn't required in these cases, the SEM-02 still needs power, and that power must come from the device it’s connected to. Devices like smartphones, cameras, and bodypack transmitters supply this plug-in power.

For this reason, if the SEM-02 is connected to a TRS adapter (ACS26-M) and then routed through a standard 1/4" instrument jack converter into a guitar amplifier, it will not work—because typical guitar amp inputs do not provide the necessary bias voltage for condenser microphones like the SEM-02.

In conclusion, the SEM-02 is a highly flexible condenser microphone that can operate with either with phantom power or plug-in power, depending on the device and adapter used. Understanding the type of power your device provides is essential to ensure optimal performance.
